Started in 1950, came along a
restaurateur named, Ryan James Chronic (born March 21, 1935) who opened up
his first restaurant, Fries Diner Restaurants in Dallas, Texas; named after
“French Fries”.
After success in the diner
restaurant business; in 1955, he opened David Hover’s Fish & Chips, in
Fort Worth, Texas known as the first chain to serve fish and chips, named
after his stepfather, David Hover (before Arthur Treacher’s Fish &
Chips was born as the second chain to serve fish and chips).
In 1960, Ryan J. Chronic Company
(known as back then), opened a new breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant
including a bakery (a “Denny’s” style restaurant), Jack Barton’s Restaurant
& Bakery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; named after his bus driver whom
Chronic thought would be a perfect name for that style of restaurant.
For the next several decades,
Chronic had opened many restaurants, such as Trina’s Classic American Bar
& Grille (originally RJC’s Trina’s Restaurant of Nostalgia in Dallas, Texas
circa 1973; who was named after a friend, Trina Robertson), Castle Ales
Restaurants in 1962, Tanya Gajria’s American Rib Grille in 1978 (started in
Houston, Texas named after another friend, Tanya Gajria), Itty Bitty Purr’s
Italian Grille (named after his sister, Lauren Chronic’s cat, Itty Bitty
Purr) in Dallas, Texas, 1969; plus many more...
His legacy goes on and on with
restaurant openings and continues to open plenty more restaurant locations
soon.
Chronic also currenty owns hotels
and stores as well.
